This year has certainly a lot in store for American rapper, singer, and record producer Kanye West. It started off with his highly anticipated album ‘Watch the Throne,’ on which he collaborated with another music master Jay-Z. After hours of being released in the market, the highly anticipated album was met with positive critics and high praises from all over the Web. It has dominated the musical tones and Allhiphop.com even gave it a score of 9 out of 10 as it debuts at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with about 436,000 sales during the first week. The album has sold over 321,000 downloads which makes it the second largest digital week after Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ early this year. When it broke sales on iTunes with about 290,000 digital copies sold in one week. It was available on iTunes from August 8 through August 11. Then it hit all the physical and digital retailers on August 12.
Kanye West already has a multiplatinum collection of hit records, but this Luis Vuitton Don and GOOD music record label owner shares this productive year with fellow hip-hop icon Jay-Z. ‘Watch the Throne’ was a collaborative studio album by Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records, Roc Nation, and Def Jam Recordings which was produced by Kanye West himself along with Jeff Bhasker, Mike Dean, RZA, Swizz Beatz, and 88 Keys. The album features other artists like Bon Iver and Otis Redding. Kanye West and Jay-Z will then be promoting their album with a concert tour in October to December 2011.
In the meantime, Kanye West is also set to release his own solo album in summer just a few months after wowing the critics with his fifth studio album ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ which was released in November 2010. But, rapper Kanye West isn’t going to stop there just yet. West also plans on making a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse with a remix of her emotional tune ‘Back to Black’. This is his way of paying homage to the singer who tragically died in July 26, 2011. Kanye is planning to release the single in September.
This hard working rapper also has a musical show inspired by him alone which is entitled ‘Kanye: The Musical’. The Australia’s Sydney University produced this West-inspired musical which will tell his controversial life story. It will showcase West’s humble beginnings and his struggle to becoming the man he is today. This production is off-Broadway and the show will be down this 5th and 7th of September at the Cellar Theatre of the University.
This is a truly productive year for Kanye West. Due to the overwhelming demands of their fans, his collaborated tour with Jay-Z, ‘Watch the Throne’ tour has additional tours in Atlanta, Miami, and Atlantic City. The pre-sale of the Kanye West tickets for Watch the Throne has already begun on August 17.
