‘This is a Call’ Started it All for the Foo Fighters
Without doubt, the Foo Fighters are one of the most popular American rock bands of the last decade. The rock/grunge band founded by Dave Grohl has revealed back information regarding the earliest Foo Fighters songs the band has released, along with other pertinent facts associated with it.
Foo Fighters released their debut album, ‘Foo Fighters’, with their original members Dave Grohl, bassist Nate Mendel, drummer William Goldsmith, both are former band members of Sunny Day Real Estate, and Nirvana tour mate Pat Smear as guitarist. The band’s first album was released in June 1995, just a year after he came up with the idea of forming a band, and after the dissociation of the band Nirvana. The first released single of the album, ‘This is a Call’ is the band’s ‘Hello’ and ‘Thank you’ of Dave Grohl, Foo Fighter’s lead vocalist and guitarist, to everyone he has performed with since he was Nirvana’s drummer as well as with many other different bands. Commonly, when bands release a single, it is followed with a music video, but ‘This is a Call’ was released without a video to promote the single. After its release in the American singles chart, the song came into record chart at no. 12. The single earned positive critics for the band, even though most of their fans were aware of its link to the former popular grunge band Nirvana.
‘This is a Call’ charted well in the UK, Canada, as well as in countries in Europe, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand and Australia. The song has paved way for the Foo Fighters’ long term success in the music world. All these years, the band has achieved a worldwide success. From 1996 through 2011, every album and single released by the Foo Fighters is highly recognized as proved by the band’s awards and nominations.
All throughout their musical career, the band has already received nine awards out of thirty-six nominations. From the Grammy Awards provided by yearly by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in the US, Foo Fighters received six awards from nineteen nominations. The Foo Fighters has received two nominations of which they’ve won both from the Brit Awards, annually awarded in the United Kingdom. The MTV Video Music Awards have awarded the Foo Fighters with sixteen nominations wherein the band has won two. The band won their latest MTV Video Awards with the ‘Best Rock Video’ for their music video ‘Walk’ from their latest album ‘Wasting Light’. A decade has passed since they began rocking the music world, but they continue to bring great Foo Fighter songs for their old and new fans.
