The Latest on Janet Jackson’s Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour
The pop icon, Janet Jackson has done it all, and again. She has not only conquered music, but also film and television. This 45 year old pop sensation however, also yearns to try her talents in Broadway. Meanwhile, this iconic pop superstar is in the middle of her sixth concert tour, Number Ones: Up Close and Personal to celebrate her 30th year in the pop music scene. This tour is in fact her largest world tour which is in support of her second compilation album entitled Number Ones. So far, the tour has been ranked 45th on the Top 50 Worldwide Tour (Mid-Year) in the Pollstar list. To date, about 99% of the Janet Jackson tickets for the tour have been sold out.
This Up Close and Personal tour of Janet Jackson kicked off on February 4, 2011 at the PICC Plenary Hall in Pasay City, Philippines. The tour was initially launched for 35 cities only, but due to the massive Janet Jackson tickets and the success of the tour, Janet Jackson has extended the tour. Now, Her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal tour consists of 8 legs which will cover 6 shows in Asia, 53 in North America, 12 in Europe, 9 in Australia, and 2 in Africa. The tour is expected to wrap up on December 5, 2011 at the Miami Beach, Florida, USA. Janet promised that this tour would be different than all her previous tours as the shows won’t be about special effects, but as up close and personal to the fans as possible. So far, the tour has received generally positive reviews from music critics, some even observed that the tour can bring back her chart successes.
Her latest visit was at the Yas Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Emirates. Thousands of Janet Jackson fans have flocked towards the Yas Arena on Thursday, October 13, 2011 to see her perform her greatest smash hits on stage. This was her first time to perform in Abu Dhabi and the show was of course just as what Janet Jackson wanted, simple and with no visual effects whatsoever. The pop icon performed some of her most popular number one hits including, ‘What Have You Done for Me Lately’, ’Escapade’, ‘Control’, ‘Nasty’, ‘Miss You Much’, ‘Again’, as well as ‘Love Will Never Do Without You’. She opened up the show with her single, ‘That’s The Way Love Goes’, which was dedicated to the people in Abu Dhabi. She had the crowd roaring when she sang the song on stage. She also sang ‘Together Again’, which was originally a duet with her brother, the late Michael Jackson.
Janet Jackson’s next leg would be in Australia, starting at the city of Perth at the Burswood Theatre on October 18, 2011. The last two legs of the tour will be in Africa and then back to North America on December 5, 2011.
