Pearl Jam Celebrates their 20th Year with Pearl Jam Twenty Tour

The American rock band, Pearl Jam, was formed in 1990 in Seattle, Washington. The Pearl Jam band was formed from the ashes of the Mother Love Bone band of Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard. Since its formation, Pearl Jam’s lineup includes Eddie Vedder on the lead vocals, Jeff Ament on the bass guitar, Stone Gossard on the rhythm, and Mike McCready on the lead guitar. Matt Cameron from Soundgarden also joined the band in 1998 as their drummer.

Since its inception, the band has already released nine studio albums, three compilation albums, eight live albums, and thirty-one singles. Their debut album, Ten, was released in 1991 and it was the band’s most commercially successful album as it was their only album to reach the diamond certification. Several other commercially successful albums followed such as Vs. (1993), Vitalogy (1994), No Code (1996), Yield (1998), Binaural (2000), Riot Act (2002), Pearl Jam (2006), and Backspacer (2009). These albums reached between gold and 7x platinum certifications in the United States.

Their recently released compilation album Pearl Jam Twenty (PJ20) came out on September 20, 2011. This is the band’s soundtrack album for their documentary film of the same name. The Pearl Jam Twenty documentary was in celebration of the Pearl Jam’s twentieth year as a band. Aside from the documentary film, there is also an accompanying book for it.

The Pearl Jam is currently wrapping up their Pearl Jam Twenty Tour to celebrate their 20th anniversary. There were high demands on the Pearl Jam tickets during the pre-sales so the website was taken offline. The Pearl Jam Twenty Tour (PJ20 Tour) has three legs with 2 shows in the United States, 10 shows in Canada, and another 10 shows in Latin America. The tour kicked off on September 3, 2011 at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. The opening act for the North American leg of the PJ20 Tour was Mudhoney. The American punk band X was announced to be the opening act for its Latin America Leg.The PJ20 Tour will be wrapping up on November 24, 2011 at the Foro Sol in Mexico City, Mexico.

Since the Pearl Jam tour for their 20th anniversary is wrapping up, there were Pearl Jam fans that weren’t able to come to one of their shows. There had been rumours speculating that Pearl Jam will be included in the lineup of the upcoming Big Day Out festival in 2012. Several media outlets have spread this rumour but when the lienup was announced, Pearl Jam was out while Radiohead will play instead. Meanwhile, after the Pearl Jam finishes up with their current tour, they will be finishing up their tenth studio album which will be released in 2012.
