Lil Wayne Tickets: More About Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne Tickets: More About Lil WayneIt may be common to see kids rapping some random lyrics nowadays, but it takes a real talent to make it to the hip-hop music scene and turn a few recordings into gold or platinum. This has been how it was and still is with Lil Wayne, who used to amaze a wide range of ages with his rap when he was a kid a few years just before the turn of the century, constantly trying to take on the world and making it fall in love with hip-hop music. Gaining superstar status was secondary to self-expression for this kid who would make it big.

Born Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. on September 27, 1982 and raised by a single mom after his father abandoned them when he was only two, Lil Wayne grew up in Hollygrove, one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in New Orleans, Louisiana. He’s known to be bright and talented when he was young, an honor student who was active in his school’s drama club activities. He wrote his first rap song when he was only eight years old, and when he met the owner of Cash Money Records, rapper Bryan Williams, he tried to hold on to his newly-discovered talent and decided to improve his craft even more. Williams became his mentor, and Lil Wayne became the youngest member of the label at the age of nine. He quit school by the age of 14 to focus on his musical career, and became a member of Hot Boys composed of rappers B.G., Young Turk and Juvenile when he turned 15. They debuted with “Get It How You Live!” in 1997 and had a major-label debut with “Guerilla Warfare” in 1999, which reached the top spot on the Billboard Magazine Top R&&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and the fifth spot on the Billboard 200.

When he turned 17, he finally had his debut solo album “Tha Black is Hot” that turned certified platinum after selling over one million copies in the US. He gained a “Best New Artist” Source magazine nomination with the album’s carrier single of the same title. However, his next two albums “Lights Out” (2000) and Degreez (2002) had mediocre sales compared to his debut album. He later on shifted styles from coming up with a conventional album to recording a collection of underground mixtapes in 2003, “Da Drought”, which features other artists’ beats and his own lyrics. The following year, he released his ground-breaking album “Tha Carter”, with the single “Go D.J.” making Lil Wayne almost a household name. He released “The Carter, Vol.2” in 2005, and it debuted at the second top spot on the Billboard pop charts. For the next two years, he was featured in many R&B and rap singles and released various mixtapes. The third sequel “Tha Carter III” sold over one million copies in the US during its first week of release, in which his single “Lollipop” earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

When he shifted his gears towards rock, releasing a rock album “Rebirth” in 2010, he initially got negative criticisms, though the album still eventually turned gold. In the same year, after being convicted of criminal possession of a weapon last July 2007, he served a prison sentence of eight months in jail in New York. He released his “I Am Not a Human Being” album while still on jail in September 2010. The fourth sequel to “Tha Carter” is scheduled to be released on August 29, 2011, and he is currently working on his “I Am Music II Tour” with several artists including Keri Hilson, Far East Movement and Rick Ross.
