She changed her screen name from Katy Hudson to Katy Perry because of its similarity to the name of the actress Kate Hudson. She signed to Capitol Music in 2007 and was encouraged to write her own music, which helped her launch an image of her as an energetic sensational pop star. She debuted with her single “Ur So Gay” that stirred a little commotion with some religious and homosexual groups, but caught the attention of Madonna who labeled this song as one of her favorites at that time. However, it was with her single “I Kissed a Girl” that made her reach the top, reaching chart peaks in many countries and driving its album “One of the Boys” into the U.S. Top Ten Charts.
