Sade Tickets: More About Sade

Sade Tickets: More About SadePeople need not be born back in the ‘80s for them to appreciate Sade’s music. Her jazz overtones that spell pop and passion at the same time have made her music timeless and her name well-remembered even during her inactive years. With people finding it hard to pronounce her rather short but ambiguous name, her record company “Epic” took the effort to put the right pronunciation “shar-day” on her record labels. Not only was the world able to pronounce her name correctly, they were also made to remember it well, due to her captivating and sensual musical style.

This singer-songwriter was born Helen Folasade Adu on January 16, 1959 in Ibadan, Nigeria to a Nigerian teacher father and a British nurse mother. They separated when she was only four years old, and she was taken along with her older brother by their mother to England to live with her grandparents. Her name Sade was taken from her middle name and was used when she was still in Nigeria because their neighbors refused to call her by her English name. She took interest in dancing during this time, but she never desired to pursue any career in music.

She went to London after finishing school at 18 and instead studied fashion designing at Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design. She earned her degree after years of supporting herself by being a bicycle messenger and a waitress. She and her business partner put up a men’s fashion designing business, though it did not work out and was eventually closed down. She even did modeling work to add to her finances, though she later on gave it up because of her contrasting principles on fashion and how she and the world perceive it differently. In the early 1980s, she auditioned for a jazz and funk band Pride as a backup singer. She failed the auditions but she was called back because they could not find any other suitable members to recruit. She and Pride’s saxophone player, Stuart Matthewman, decided to team up together, write songs and play in separate sets. Later on, Pride disbanded after Sade gained fans on her own. Pride’s former manager Lee Barrett decided to manage Sade, and the rest is history.

Sade released her first album, “Diamond Life” under Epic Records, and in the late 1984 it reached the Top Ten in the U.K. music charts. She made it big in America and Europe with the album’s hits “Smooth Operator” and “Your Love is King” rapidly climbing the charts. “Diamond Life” sold six million copies worldwide, and Sade instantly became an international singing sensation by the end of 1985. Her second album, “Promise”, was released when her first one starts to trek down the charts. With her second Top Ten hit, “The Sweetest Taboo” and other singles “Is It a Crime”, “Jezebel” and “Never as Good as the First Time”, her “Promise” album went to sell over 4 million copies in the US alone. She won a Grammy Award as the “Best New Artist” in 1986. Two years later, she released another album, “Stronger than Pride”, and performed in various TV shows and tours. In the following years, her other releases include “Cherish the Day”, “Pearl” and “Kiss of Life”, most of which are chart top placers.

Sade is considered the most successful solo female artist in the history of British music, with over 110 million album copies sold worldwide. With the success of her most recent album Soldier of Love (2010), she is back on promotional tour with live performances of hits the fans would surely love to hear her sing one more time. For the first time after a decade, she is currently on a series of tours with details of tour dates and Sade tickets made available online. Never miss this chance to relive her soft and seductive musical style that came to life in the early ‘80s and would continue to capture more listeners’ hearts in the years to come.
