Foo Fighters Tickets: More About Foo Fighters
As people sometimes say, the end is just a signal for a new beginning to unfold. If it weren’t for Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994, Nirvana’s drummer Dave Grohl would not have been distressed not only because of his friend’s untimely demise, but also of the success their careers had witnessed as a group. When he decided to pick up the pieces and tried to prove himself once again with his music, he was able to come up with a band known as the Foo Fighters.
When Grohl switched from drums to vocals and guitar and recruited guitarist Pat Smear, bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith, an alternative rock band was formed in Seattle, Washington USA. Grohl, being a great singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, labeled his demo tapes “Foo Fighters” that was released without any intention of making it big in the industry. When record labels took great interest in their music, Grohl decided to license the album to Captial and release it under his own record label, “Roswell Records”. The band debuted in March 1995 in Portland Oregon and went on tour in promotion of their first album. Soon after, they were considered one of the most commercially successful bands with huge alternative radio airplay and leading exposure, owing to the success of their singles “Big Me”, “This Is a Call”, “I’ll Stick Around” and “For All the Cows”.
Before they released their second album, drummer Goldsmith left the band after some tension that took place between him and Grohl over the drum sounds. He was replaced by Taylor Hawkins, who worked with Alanis Morissette. Their second album “The Colour and the Shape”, released in May 1997, included singles, “My Hero”, “Everlong” and “Monkey Wrench”. Guitarist Pat Smear decided to leave the band to pursue his other interests, with his replacement being the former Scream band mate Franz Stahl. He played for them in several tours and recorded a few tracks before leaving the group. The remaining members recorded their third album, “There Is Nothing Left To Lose” in Grohl’s home studio in Virginia. This album included their first ever single to reach the UST Hot 100, “Learn to Fly”, and shortly after their release, they signed with RCA records and hired guitarist Chris Shiflett.
Their fourth album, “One By One”, was released in 2002 with singles “Have It All”, “Low” “All My Life” and “Times Like These”. However, this album did not reach their expectations. In turn, they busied themselves doing several side projects, including the 2002 album “Songs for the Deaf” of the band Queens of the Stone Age. In 2005, they released a two-disc set with acoustic and rock sides, “In Your Honor”, which was recorded in their newly-built studio in Los Angeles, the Studio 606 West. The band held commercially successful tours exclusively for this album and promoted its singles “DOA”, “No Way Back”, “Miracle”, and “Best of You”. In 2007, they released “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace”, which spawned their record-breaking single “The Pretender”.
They released their greatest hits compilation “Wheels” in 2009, and this included the acoustic version of “Everlong” and another new single “Word Forward”. Their seventh studio album, which was recorded in Grohl’s garage, is entitled “Wasting Light”, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with its first official single, “Rope”.
