Goo Goo Dolls Tickets: More About the Goo Goo Dolls
Musicians, just like the rest of the people in this world, are best remembered by the difference they make in what they believe they can do best. As for the American band Goo Goo Dolls, enjoying huge commercial success (even before breaking their own record for the most Top 10 singles in the history of Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart) is utterly familiar. Though they were critically considered mere copycats of the Replacements early in their career, it just took them some polishing with their sounds until they were able to rise as one of the most popular adult alternative rock bands before the turn of the century.
This band, formed back in 1985 in Buffalo, New York, was named after a magazine ad for a doll with moveable rubber head. Before they chose the name Goo Goo Dolls, they were originally known as Sex Maggots. The band was initially composed of vocalist and guitarist John Rzeznik, bass guitarist and vocalist Robby Takac and drummer and percussionist George Tutuska. With Robby as their first their lead vocalist because John was the shy-type, they released their first album “Goo Goo Dolls” in 1987. When they moved to Los Angeles, they released their second album “Jed” in 1989 after signing a contract with Death/Enigma label. Their third album, “Hold Me Up”, came soon after the following year, a collection of tracks considered to be a tribute to the faith of the catholic-raised band members. In 1993, when they released “Superstar Car Wash”, they were heralded as the “Next Replacements”. With highly praised singles “Already There” and “Fallin’ Down”, Goo Goo Dolls exhibited their own style of artistry that cleared a spot for them in the mainstream music industry.
The band’s fifth album “A Boy Named Goo” marked the huge break they were waiting for, with the single “Name” as their first hit to top both US Album Rock chart and US Modern Rock chart. However, drummer George was not around anymore to enjoy the success and was replaced by former Minor Threat drummer Mike Malinin. When they were having some issues concerning their Metal Blade contract, which resulted in a legal battle, John was approached to write a soundtrack for the movie “City of Angels”. This movie, starring Nicolas Cage, gave birth to their ever-popular “Iris” single. It spent nearly a year on Billboard’s airplay charts, making it deserving to remain in the top spots for eighteen weeks and gain three Grammy nominations. Their next album was released while the “Iris” fever was still high on the charts. “Dizzy Up the Girl” sold over three million copies, making it the band’s highest-selling album since the beginning of their career.
They managed to turn their seventh studio album “Gutterflower” released 2002 into gold, with their audience slowly decreasing in number. They released their next album in 2006, “Let Love In”, which still went gold and spawned hits like Stay With You”, “Better Days” and a cover of Supertramp’s “Give a Little Bit”. In 2007, they released their collection of greatest hits album, “Greatest Hits, Vol. 1: The Singles”, followed by the Vol.2 a year later. Their ninth album released in 2010, “Something for the Rest of Us”, included a notably different songwriting by John with a more potent, melody-minded and solemner mood. They have been touring in promotion of this album starting in April last year and would end on August 2011. Fans in North America and Europe who have not yet seen them perform live can get their Goo Goo Dolls tickets and schedule dates of their remaining tours online. Following the success of their “Let Love In” major concert back in 2006 to 2007, their second major tour of 186 shows and three legs is something die-hard fans would surely hate to miss.
