Pearl Jam Tickets: More About Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam Tickets: More About Pearl JamRising from the ashes of Green River to Mother Love Bone, the band Pearl Jam was formed in Seattle, Washington, to become one of the most popular American grunge bands of the 90s. The formation of the group resulted from chance and the demise of the short-lived band Mother Love Bone, from which the bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossards was previously a member. From its inception, the line-up of the band included Eddie Vedder on the lead vocals, Jeff Ament on the bass guitarist, Stone Gossard on the rhythm guitar, and Mike McCready on the lead guitar. Matt Cameron, who was formerly a member of Soundgarden, is the band’s current drummer and has been with the band since 1998. Cameron replaced the band’s former drummer, Dave Krusen.

Pearl Jam debuted in the mainstream with their album “Ten” in 1991. Ten didn’t start selling in great numbers until the early 1992 after the release of Nirvana’s album. Even with the criticism of Nirvana’s frontman Kurt Cobain, Pearl Jam soon outsold Nirvana with Ten being a certified gold and reaching number two in the Billboard charts. It stayed on the Billboard charts for two years as it went thirteen times platinum and soon became one of the highest selling rock records. Pearl Jam became a part of the Grunge explosion in Seattle along with Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and Soundgarden.

The band was criticized for not succumbing to the accepted conventions of the music industry as they refused to release any videos or singles. On October 1993, Pearl Jam’s second album “Vs” was released and it debuted at number one while also selling almost one million copies on its first week. “Vitalogy”, the band’s third album released at the end of 1994 and it quickly went multi-platinum. In the late summer of 1996, their fourth album “No Code” was released. No Code debuted at number one, but quickly fell down the charts. The same fate awaited Pearl Jam’s “Yield” album which was released in February 1998. Although the band supported their album with a full scale arena tour, went up to number two on its first week and then quickly went down the charts. In 1999, Pearl Jam did a smash cover of J. Frank Wilson’s “Last Kiss” and it became the band’s highest-charting pop hit. It peaked at number two and eventually went gold. The band returned in 2000 with their sixth studio album “Binaural”, which was produced by Tchad Blake. In 2002, “Riot Act” was released in November 12. IT featured tracks like “I am Mine”, “Save You” and “Arc”, which was recorded as a tribute to the people who died during the Roskilde Festival in Denmark.

When their 20th anniversary as a band neared, Pearl Jam launched a series of album reissues and a deluxe version of “Ten” in 2009. During the same year, they released their ninth studio album “Backspacer”, which the band supported with an extensive tour in 2010. January 5, 2011, the band announced an upcoming deluxe version of their albums “Vs.” and “Vitalogy” in spring. In celebration of their 20th anniversary, the band will debut “Pearl Jam Twenty” at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday September 10, 2011. Pearl Jam Twenty was said to be a definitive portrait of the band as told by Cameron Crowe, and award winning filmmaker and music journalist. On September 20th, their documentary “Pearl Jam Twenty” will be released in selected theatres for one night only and it will run for a full week beginning September 23. Pearl Jam tickets for the documentary are now available for sale. In addition to their year-long celebration, Pearl Jam will also release their Pearl Jam Twenty book on September 13, 2011.
