The Black Keys Tickets: More About The Black Keys
For a rock band with few members as well as instruments, The Black Keys did well to make its way to the top creating great sound with just an electric guitar and a drum kit. Coupled with noteworthy vocals, unique guitar skills and artistic drumbeats, this American rock blues band was formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001 and sold more than 1.7 million records as of 2010. Composed of Dan Auerbach in guitar and vocals and Patrick Carney in drums, this music duo discovered their natural affinity towards music and carried on with their own style even without a traditional musical ensemble. Though two-member rock bands are relatively rare, The Black Keys have proven that with the right impetus and talent, anything is possible.
Patrick and Dan were friends since childhood, and they grew up in the same environment, attended the same schools and took interest in the same kind of music. It was not after they started playing together with other friends that they have realized they would like to pursue thier interests and started creating music on their own. Since it’s a two-member band, they have to sacrifice other musical elements and began creating deceivingly tuneful, fiercely noisy but astoundingly earnest music. In an interview made on NPR’s “Fresh Air”, they revealed that their band’s name was taken after an artist named Alfred McMoore, someone they personally know who was diagnosed with schizophrenia. McMoore was known to leave rambling messages on their answering machines whenever their fathers, whom he refers to as “black keys” such as D flat, had upset him.
In 2002, they released their successful debut album “The Big Come Up”, which was soon followed by “Thickfreakness” in 2003. Their second album was recorded in Patrick’s basement for 14 hours and included singles included in the various official soundtracks for TV shows and films. Three singles “Hard Row”, “Have Love, Will Travel” and “Set You Free” received positive views from fans and critics alike. Their third album, “Rubber Factory”, was released in 2004 after recording it in an abandoned factory in Akron. Their single “When the Lights Go Out” was featured in the film “Black Snake Moan” starring Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci and Justin Timberlake. Other singles, such as “10 A.M. Automatic”, was also used in “The Go Getter”, “Live Free or Die” and “MLB 06: The Show”, while other tracks were also featured in various commercials. They also released two video albums, “Live” and “Live in Austin” which was taken from their performances in 2003 and 2005.
In 2006, they released their fourth album, “Magic Potion”, featuring singles “Just Got to Be”, “Your Touch” and “You’re the One”. However, in recording for their fifth album, they finally went out of their basement-recording studio and worked with Grammy Award-nominated producer, musician and provocateur Danger Mouse. This album, “Attack & Release”, was released in 2008 and included the songs “Same Old Thing” and “Strange Times”. “I Got Mine” was used as the theme song for “The Bridge” a Canadian Police drama TV series and was even listed as the 23rd best song in Rolling Stone’s list of 100 Best Songs in 2008. Their singles “Howlin’ For You”, “Tighten Up” and “She’s Long Gone” are included in their most recent album, “Brothers”, which was released in 2010. This album got the number two spot on Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2010 while Spin Magazine named The Black Keys as the Artist of the Year for 2010.
